Pomperaug District Department of Health -
Procedures for Cleaning a Fecal or Vomit Discharge in a Pool

  • Close Pool

  • Remove as much of the solid matter as possible

  • Raise disinfectant level to 5-10 mg/L chlorine or equivalent

  • Allow one complete filtration cycle (one turnover) of pool water volume to occur (8 hours or less if turnover rate is known)

  • Allow disinfectant level to adjust to 0.8-3.0 mg/L chlorine

  • Re-open pool for use

It is recommended that children who are not toilet trained wear tight fitting plastic pants.
