PRIVATE WATER SUPPLIES - WELLS

Well Drilling
Private Water Well
Under Construction

The Pomperaug District Department of Health approves the location and construction of drinking water wells that serve homes and small businesses. This involves making sure that there are no known sources of pollution within a certain radius of the proposed well location. A review of the Well Completion Report for proper construction, depth and yield, and storage is performed also.

Once the well's construction is completed, a water sample must be collected for analysis at a state licensed private laboratory. The Pomperaug Health District must review the results of the analysis for bacteriological, chemical and physical parameters and advise the well's owner about any unusual characteristics that may require treatment. Water treatment is a complicated and expensive undertaking, and we are careful that our recommendations will ensure that the treatment proposed is appropriate for the condition, will improve water quality, and will not be harmful to the residents or the environment.
