Preventing the outbreak of foodborne illnesses is a top priority. The Health District inspects and licenses over 140 food service establishments such as restaurants, school cafeterias, nursing homes and catering facilities. An inspection determines an establishment's compliance to the Public Health Code. The Health District's sanitarians check for proper food temperatures, safe food handling procedures, good hygienic practices, and general cleanliness and maintenance.
In addition to food service inspections, the Health District reviews plans for all new and remodeled food service facilities, and investigates all food borne illness outbreaks.
In the Spring, the Health District offered a food safety review class along with a low-cost Qualified Food operator certification exam to local food service establishments.
