WHAT TO LOOK FOR IN A DAY CARE

While the following may not be a complete list, it will give parents a starting ground of what to look for when choosing a day care.

·        Does the child feel safe?

Connecticut regulations require 1 staff person for every 10 children over 3 years of age or 1 staff person for every 4 children under 3 years of age.

·        Does the staff help with separation anxiety when the parent leaves for the day?

·        Does the center appear clean? Remember to look at this from a child’s level such as the floors, toys etc…

·        Is there child-sized furniture available?

·        Do the other children appear happy?

·        Are there enough activities and toys for children to have choices throughout the day?

·        Are the activities and choices age appropriate?

·        Are there group and individual activities to help the child feel as part of a team while allowing for their independence?

·        Is personal expression encouraged?

·        Is the staff interested in the child’s at home tendencies?
