WEST NILE VIRUS

 
Culex Pipiens
Culex pipiens is a major vector in this
infection and is a human biting mosquito.

West Nile virus is an emerging pathogen that appeared on the scene in the late summer of 1999 in New York and lower Fairfield county. West Nile virus is transmitted from birds to humans by infected mosquitoes. The illness can be particularly severe for the very young and the elderly.
